Latin Grammy Award Winner plays Freida Margolis?
Yes!
Mireya Ramos - violinist and vocalist with the all female Mariacchi band La Flor de Toloache - is bringing a latin lineup to Frieda's for an evening of latin-mariachi-soul.
Mireya has been in New Zealand since Womad 2020 - along with her partner Andy Auverbuch, sometime 'boogaloo' guitarist with the latin soul great Jo Bataan. The pair decided to wait the Covid19 out Downunder.
The evening will feature Mireya on vocals and violin backed up by four piece band - featuring percussionist Miguel Fuentes (George Benson, Grover Washington, Patti LaBelle)
Mireya, founder of the all-female Mariacchi group La Flor de Toloache won a Latin Grammy in 2017 and in 2019 recorded a single with John Legend - as well as recently working with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys...and performing at the Kennedy Center Honors for Linda Ronstadt...phew.
Flor de Toloache most recent album was also a 2020 Grammy Nominee in the Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album category.
One listen to Mireya Ramos’ slaying vocals on “Regresa Yá,” and you’ll never think of mariachi as tame tableside entertainment again.
The Rolling Stone (US Edition)
“These mariachis have moxie. They don't just sing; they could blast through mountains with their wails and gritos (shouts), and melt glaciers with the warmth of their gorgeous harmonies (figuratively speaking, of course). And they don't just play mariachi. Flor de Toloache also weaves an arsenal of styles into its new release, Las Caras Lindas (The Pretty Faces): jazz, classical, salsa, cumbia, folk, rock, country and hip-hop. ”
