Press release:
Alongside of their forthcoming appearance at Knotfest Australia, the enigmatic noise rock-cum-industrial metal trio that is HEALTH returns to New Zealand for their headline tour in many years off the back of their seventh album, Rat Wars, a dystopian, painfully horny fever dream that may just be the zenith of their evolution.
HEALTH earned a reputation for themselves in the Los Angeles underground experimental music community with their remix of the Crystal Castles song ‘Crimewave’, pre-dating the release of their debut self-titled album in 2007.
At the time of this first record, HEALTH’S distinctive take on noise rock involved the transmutation of a microphone and guitar pedal, known as a “Zoothorn”. Unpredictable, unstructured noise compliments goth-appealing vocals that possess an "even, unaffected feel. A softness, like a Zombies melody, or even a Gregorian chant".
With their 2019 release of Death Magic and Vol. 4: Slaves of Fear, new song structures had formed around their noisy landscapes and HEALTH began incorporating more electronic elements, which Famigletti has credited to the innovative electronic scene.
With their 2024, RAT WARS, the band’s inspiration in metal and industrial music, results in a soundscape possessing sheer power much greater than all its noise rock, experimental and electro-industrial predecessors combined.
