Aotearoa - this March, Valhalla Touring presents an exclusive opportunity to see industrial/noise rock band HEALTH outside of Knotfest 2025.
HEALTH earned a reputation for themselves in the Los Angeles underground experimental music community with their remix of the Crystal Castles song ‘Crimewave’, pre-dating the release of their debut self-titled album in 2007.
“Not even six minutes into the album, and you are drawn into a mind-numbing sonic overload only sauntered by HEALTHs noisy predecessors.” — Spin
At the time of this first record, HEALTH’S distinctive take on noise rock involved the transmutation of a microphone and guitar pedal, known as a “Zoothorn”. With vocals appealing to the goths, an even, unaffected feel. A softness, like a Zombies melody, or even a Gregorian chant.
With their 2019 release of Death Magic and Vol. 4: Slaves of Fear, new song structures had formed around their noisy landscapes and HEALTH began incorporating more electronic elements, which Famigletti has credited to the innovative electronic scene.
“Since our inception, we’ve always thought of ourselves as like a future primitive soundscape” — Jake Duzsik
Now, since the 2024 release of RAT WARS, it is the band’s inspiration in metal and industrial music that has the resulting soundscape possessing sheer power much greater than all its noise rock, experimental and electro-industrial predecessors combined.
