Listen To Goya's 'Being Earnest' EP
Te Whanganui a Tara noiseniks Goya (formerly known as Church Of Goya) unleash a teeth-baring slab of panoramic post-punk on their sweetly titled Being Earnest EP. Swinging around spiky / crunchy guitars and ominous lurching grooves, with almost poetic jangly instrumental passages breaking up the fury, the team of Lucas Donnell, Jonathan Shirley and Frazer Charlton serve up five tales from Aotearoa's dark side. Engineered and mixed by Hans Pucket's Oliver Devlin, the EP's palpably uneasy tone sometimes recalls the misanthropic eeriness of Tāmaki's GPOGP / Horror In Clay, while tightly wound numbers such as robotic pounder 'Format' conversely lean hard into locked-groove mania, delivering body-slamming results. Sure to be an intense live experience, Goya's forthcoming headline shows this weekend in Ōtepoti and Ōtautahi are indeed going ahead this weekend under Alert Level 2 conditions — scope out the full tour deets here...
