Waterfalls Returns With New Single 'Impressionistic'

Happy new year! We're back from the beach and excited to discover what 2021 will bring us, and what better way to kick off a new era than with the sumptuous new single from Pōneke electronic auteur Waterfalls aka Amber Johnson? A first taste of her upcoming sophomore EP (the long-awaited follow up to Waterfalls' 2016 self-titled debut EP), 'Impressionistic' welcomes listeners back to Johnson's sound world with dreamlike keys and celestial vocals, unfolding into prismatic waves of percussion and undulating grooves to map out deeper and darker emotional terrain. The gorgeous, gently shifting sonics are offset with lovelorn yet assertive wordplay — as Johnson explained, "I sing of the impressions left on a woman who has it reiterated to her time and again why she will not be loved, and counter these impressions with an assertion to cherish the self she knows intimately."
