Thought Creature Share Psychedelic Single 'Talk In Tongues' + Announce Tour
Ex-Wellington psychedelic pop artists Thought Creature have been quiet of late, as co-songwriters Danny Brady (Elan Vital, Death & The Maiden) and Will Rattray (Full Moon Fiasco) have been working on their own acclaimed musical projects from their respective home bases of Dunedin and Berlin. That's all changing with the release of the band's first single in six years 'Talk In Tongues', the otherworldly lead tune from their long-awaited second album Ocean Dream, which is dropping in April and will be supported by a New Zealand tour. The single recalls the grunged-out swamp rock of Thought Creature's trailblazing 2008 album Teleport Palace, word on the street is Ocean Dream sees the group in their classic three piece guitar/bass/drums format rather than the cybernetic dance mode highlighted on their more recent Total Recall EP (Crystal Magic Records, 2012).
The nautically-themed Ocean Dream was recorded in Wellington harbour's iconic Tug Boat. Will Rattray shared info on the origins of the album, saying "I was aware that the Tug Boat was being renovated and hence
not in use shortly after we began planing the recording of the album. I knew the title would be 'Ocean Dream' and it occurred to me that the acoustics of the tiki style lounge bar in the curved hull would suit the sound of the album perfectly. I approached the owners about the idea and they were kind enough to give me the key and let me set up my recording gear. For three weeks we would go in after the tradesmen went home and record till early morning. The boat had been taken off its mooring so was on a lean which made the experience particularly surreal. Once you have descended the stairs to the bar the water line is quite far above you, so it's true to say the album 'Ocean Dream' was actually recorded under the sea."
