Manipur, a state in remote North-East India, has been engulfed in a civil war for over three months. With over 60,000 people displaced, the tragedy has disproportionately affected the indigenous tribal hill people. Proceeds from this event will go to the tribal relief camps.
The Warratahs' Barry Saunders and Caroline Easther, and Bill Lake (The Pelicans, The Windy City Strugglers, Mammal etc) with double bassist Steve Hemmens have graciously come on board to lighten a little of the load with their beloved songs.
No tribal gathering is complete without songs so the evening will feature a short screening of tribal songs that have sustained people in recent times.
Dāri's Kitchen will create a menu specially for the event. DK is a new local food initiative of Manipur tribal native Helen Keivom which has been planned for some time.
With the events unfolding in Manipur, Helen is donating the initial proceeds to the Hmar Youth Association (tribal welfare group) in her hometown of Churachandpur/Lamka where most of the relief camps are based.
Freshly cooked curries are included in the cost of the $30 ticket with both vegan and meat options.
Doors open 5.30pm with dinner served. The show starts 7.30pm
A beautiful Kuki tribal shawl (handwoven using a waist loom) will be up for grabs in a raffle.
Please bring cash as there is no eftpos. A bank account number will be available if required.
Tickets on sale at undertheradar.co.nz. Contact Helen 0272584251 or PM for more details including direct ticket sales.
