Super Sunday Sonic Spectacular
Starting at 3PM, finishing at 9PM
The team over at Punk It Up Mission Control are happy to announce that whilst they work on whether or not there will be a Punk It Up VI, they're bringing a Super Sunday Sonic Spectacular to the new-ish Double Whammy.
A super gig its going to be, with a massive lineup of talent, bringing you some fresh new, and old, punk sounds, and speaking of punk sounds, the DJs between bands will keep your toes tapping and your 'ead bangin during the super quick changeovers...
The other incredibly important point to note is that its a Matinee show, with action starting at the Lazy Sunday Afternoon time of 3PM, and then 6 hours of non-stop punk rock'n'roll fun, finishing at 9PM, so plenty of time, even for those on the outskirts of Tamaki Makaurau, to make it home to bed for a good nights sleep before re-joining the rat race on Monday morning.
The lineup for the afternoon starts with lead off heavy hitters Scream By Tulips who will knock it out of the park with their buzz-filled riff laden tunes. If they don't raise your blood pressure enough to go from barstool to dancefloor, then you've come to the wrong gig!
Following up, and batting second, is The Brood, reforming especially for this show!
After a 10 year hiatus, this once bFM Hot Favourite band, bring their garage punk back to the world with a vengeance.
In the third spot is The Ideas, a 2 piece that make as much noise as a 20 piece band... grimy, grungy, grunty guitars with demolishing dangerous drums, mixed up with some very visceral vocals, make them an act not to miss.
At the halfway point of the show, bankRobbers, a revolving star studded band of ne'er do wells, with new thief Simon Nicholls on bass, will do a Clash tribute set, as their original gig was a StrummerDay gig at the KA, way back when, so they'll attempt to remember what the heck they played on that fateful evening, when the beast that is bankRobbers was hatched.
Then its time for the real spitball fastball kind of pitching from those aficionados of guitars (with a serious dose of reverb and tremolo), surf-masters The Cthulus, who will get your booty shaking and all warmed up, for...., wait for it....., the Cootie Cuties and their all encompassing punk rock'n'roll for your all encompassing pleasure.
To close up the late, late afternoon, bankRobbers will take the stage for the second time, with a mixture of well known punk songs, but this time they'll be welcoming guests to help them out, including Mat Rew from City Newton Bombers/Slambodia, Nick Hanson of Spelling Mistakes fame, the mad professor Jed Town from X-Features/Fetus Productions, and possibly a few other surprize guests. Its not all vocals either, as Ed Geddes from The Instigators will utilize his saxophone for a couple of songs, with Cootie Cutie Annie on vocals, that prove sax solos do belong in punk rock...
But wait... there's more... Starting off the night, and playing in between all the bands, so that the whole 6 hours of early Sunday fun will be wall to wall punk rock'n'roll, are the Punk It Up Selector crew of bFM stars Dubhead, Miss Dom, and Phil A, and also welcoming special guest Johnny Dambuster, on those wheels of steel.
Tickets are priced at an incredibly low price for 6 bands (plus DJs) at undertheradar.com
