Wayfinding was written by Wellington bassist and composer Seth Boy as a project reflecting on his experience as an immigrant who has lived half his life in the Philippines and half in Aotearoa New Zealand. After sold-out shows at the Arthur Street Loft Orchestra series and the Wellington Jazz Festival, Seth and his twelve-piece ensemble are excited to re-present this work at the esteemed Rogue and Vagabond.
A suite in five movements, Wayfinding describes and explores concepts central to the immigrant experience in New Zealand including displacement, movement, and struggles around the idea of home. This music is contemplative and emotive, grounded in the jazz tradition and inspired by Filipino folk music, and will be played by some of the city's leading musicians.
