Paul McLaney and Kirsten Morrell on tour
Acclaimed singer/songwriter Paul Mclaney is pretty good at outdoing himself. From his initial solo forays, to the full band of Gramsci; collaborations with the likes of Anika Moa then Concord Dawn – then of course his stunning album Edin and the adored follow up Diamond Side firmly cementing him as one of New Zealand’s best career artists.
With those solo albums in hand he created a formidable NZ tour circuit, stepping out each time with an increasingly impressive new line-up of solo performers. As he prepares to embark on another live outing, Paul has outdone himself again – accompanying him this time will be NZ’s golden girl herself – Goldenhorse’s Kirsten Morrell, on her first major tour as a solo artist. What can be said about the award winning front woman of one of the country’s favourite bands teaming up with our beloved troubadour? I would say not to be missed.
With such a charming line-up, it was essential the shows’ settings should be equally inspiring. The venues include the Ponsonby Cruising Club – a seated venue with a stunning backdrop of Auckland Harbour; While at the other end of the country Southland’s spectacular Caitlins hosts a show at the Woodstock Lodge; and just out of central Dunedin there’ll be an intimate gig – the first of it’s kind – at the infamous Careys Bay Hotel.
