Bob Dylan in NZ and Australia

Bob Dylan in NZ and Australia

Wednesday 23rd May, 2007 12:00PM

Iconic folk rolk rocker Bob Dylan (yes hes still alive and going strong and onto his 32nd studio album), will be playing New Zealand and Australia in August.

Returning at the pinnacle of his most creative and diverse projects – documentaries, books and number one albums, Bob Dylan and his band are coming to Australia and New Zealand for the first time in more than four years for a comprehensive national run of dates in August 2007.

Following the critical praise for his acclaimed 32nd studio album, Modern Times, sentiment to which he has become so rightfully accustomed, Dylan has a growing popular resurgence that deftly crosses each and every generation.

The August tour, which will take in major arenas across both Australia and New Zealand, is destined to be one of the year’s major tours and a musical event of depth, grace and significance, delivered by one of the greats. You will want to secure tickets as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

Dylan’s famously dubbed “Never Ending Tour” which began in the late 1980’s will take him to North America in June and July this year before he reaches Australia and New Zealand in August. While you never know what Dylan will play on any given night with such a rich back catalogue of material to draw from, he has been playing a wonderfully diverse range of new and old material on his recent 2007 European dates.

Some of the classic tracks played live this year have included ‘All Along The Watchtower’, ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, ‘Don't Think Twice, It's All Right’, ‘It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)’, and ‘A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall’. The new material played from Modern Times has included tracks like ‘Thunder On The Mountain’, ‘Rollin' And Tumblin'’, and ‘When The Deal Goes Down’.

Whatever is dished up for Australian audiences, we are bound to be dazzled by a true songwriting master and concert performer whose 10 year long career renaissance is showing no signs of slowing down.

And opening the evening for the entire tour of Australia and New Zealand, by personal invitation, will be one of Ireland’s most successful bands, The Frames.

The Frames released their first album in 1992 and, for over nearly a decade bounced through various record deals and band line-ups. Their live album Set List and 2005’s Burn The Maps both went straight to No 1 in Ireland, the latter finishing at No 5 on the New York Times end of year Top 10 releases.

The band’s most recent album The Cost (2007) has received widespread praise with trademark delicate folk melodies, which weave through blasts of big guitars and artful noise to great cinematic effect.

A perfect way to describe the music of a band who are also celebrating Sundance Film Festival success with the film Once, which stars The Frames’ frontman Glen Hansard and. Once won was directed by one-time Frames bass-player John Carney the World Cinema Audience Award: Dramatic prize at this year’s Sundance.

With The Frames in concert, Bob’s audiences on this tour should brace themselves for a thoroughly rewarding and exhilarating experience.

An opportunity to see Bob Dylan live in concert is an opportunity to share an encounter one of the true icons of our generation.

As the old master said, the times they are a-changin’…. don’t miss your chance to experience an extraordinary piece of the original patchwork of the music revolution this August. Tickets are on sale on Thursday 7th June.
