Dub Penguins Play Sublime
A Tribute to Sublime – Creators of the Long Beach Sound, Performed by Dub Penguins
A one-and-a-half-hour tribute to one of the most influential bands in the reggae-rock scene of all time — Sublime — performed live by Dub Penguins.
The setlist includes not only tracks from official releases like 40oz. to Freedom, Second-Hand Smoke, and their self-titled album Sublime, but also B-sides and versions from rare recent recordings. The performance explores Sublime’s signature live mash-up style — a fusion of punk, dancehall, ska, and dub.
“...we all run to the party, dance to the riddim, it gets harder...”
About Dub Penguins:
This four-piece band is no stranger to New Zealand’s underground scene. Active since 2021, Dub Penguins have served as the backing band for Kyle Fury of Los Furios (Canada) and have appeared in multiple editions of the Auckland Ska Festival. It was at this festival that they first tested their Sublime Tribute Set, which generated enough interest to expand and refine it further.
With deep experience as performers of Jamaican music, the band has developed the ability to deliver a unique show at each date. They craft reggae versions of classics, pop songs, and movie/TV themes, transforming each track into a richly layered soundscape — whether dub, punk, bossa nova, dancehall, or rocksteady, depending on the vibe. This versatility has earned them the nickname “Waiheke Roots Dealers.”
