Jude Kelly 'The Seven Spirits of Her’
Following the release of her debut EP, ‘The Seven Spirits of Her’ on May 9th 2025, Jude Kelly and band is returning live with two shows, hitting Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland and, for the first time, Pōneke / Wellington.
Aotearoa / New Zealand-based singer-songwriter Jude Kelly, is equipped with the confidence of an artist who has honed her craft, as she chronicles her experiences of love, loss, growth, accomplishment and resilience in her music. Raised by two pastors as the youngest of 5 children, before moving out of home at 15 and putting herself through university, Jude turned to writing as an outlet to process questions of identity and selfhood, as she came to grips with the world on her own terms.
On the new EP Jude says “The record is important and an introduction to me as an artist and a person, every song is a different woman - every song embodies a different character. There is a song for love, a song for feeling sexy, a song for yearning, a song breaking down the patriarchal walls that bind us. I hope people see in these songs the multiplicity of life.”
On the show Jude says “I want you to come with a curious heart and be open - feel the bad - feel the good. It will be, like life, provocative - charming - ugly. This is emotive music - and getting back to performing live is how I feel most comfortable. Bring a date”
Her sonic world branches out from her foundation in soulful pop, incorporating Western/Americana and folk elements to create a refined soundscape that is uniquely her own. With a distinct voice and authentic charm, Jude’s music is a refreshing take on timeless songwriting driven by emotive vocals and poetic lyricism, reminiscent of lane-paving contemporaries including Lana Del Rey, Florence & The Machine and Patti Smith among others.
