He has formed his musical vision out of the blues, country, folk and gospel traditions of the American, British and Australian past. Malone’s commanding baritone and masterfully crafted songs have been compared to the archetypal Johnny Cash, gospel preachers like Blind Willie Johnson / Reverend Gary Davis, poetic troubadours including Leonard Cohen / Bob Dylan and tenebrous lyrical princes Nick Cave / Michael Gira. Malone's live performances are noted for their visceral intensity and emotional honesty, having shared the stage with many Australian music legends over the years including Kim Salmon (The Scientists), Hugo Race (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), Cam Butler (Silver Ray), Penny Ikinger (The Wet Taxis), Wendy Rule and countless others in some of the most prestigious venues across Australia.
