Mea Culpa - The Weekend Tour - With No Life Jacket
Mea Culpa is a Dunedin based band built around two unique singer/songwriters, Emma Wells and Leigham Fitzpatrick.
Emma Wells is a musician originally from Invercargill now living in Dunedin. Her influences are vocalists such as Florence Welsh (Florence and the machine) Eva Cassidy and Beth Gibbons (Portishead). Her originals take on a vulnerable soulful feel with bouts of power. Classically trained she is able to control her voice to express different emotions capturing the essence of her songs.
Leigham on the other hand is heavily influenced by the likes of Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave. Their often dark lyrics are accompanied by an unconventional guitar style which uses a mixture of alternative tunings and capos.
Separately, their vocal styles are strikingly different and together they form intoxicating harmonies that will sweep you off your feet and into the stars, where dreams come to life and everything is not as it seems...
For this show they're leaving the rest of the band in Dunedin and playing as a duo, performing a mixture of their own songs and their favourite covers in a laid back, intimate setting. Between Emma's powerhouse vocals, Leigham's poetic lyrics, and a combination of acoustic guitar and smooth electric bass you're in for a real one-of-a-kind treat.
To start the evening they have a special guest act lined up, none other than the Invercargill duo No Life Jacket.
Threes and Sevens is a no alcohol, all ages venue. They have a range of non-alcoholic craft beers and soft drinks to sate your thirst and keep your tastebuds entertained while your ears devour the musical experience that is Mea Culpa!
