The idea that music and science are connected has a long and rich history. Heather's music explores and develops this idea, connecting and weaving improvised jazz with the structure of the universe. New compositions range from M45 star cluster data converted into music, to a musical interpretation of Einstein's wave-particle duality.
Daughter of a scientist and an artist, Heather offers a unique perspective - both artistic and scholarly - and focuses her work on the lunar phases and star clusters of our southern skies.
Heather is internationally sought-after and is rated as one of the top women in NZ jazz by RNZ, leading events in both the traditionally male-dominated fields of science and music.
“an engaging blend of scientific and musical nerdery. Webb offers fascinating context in her introductions, invites the room into her enthusiasms, ... leaves the audience wanting more... It’s a real joy to watch her own the space and lead the all-male band in something with such a clear and thoughtful creative point of view.” - Erin Harrington, Flat City Field Notes
“Webb’s evocatively atmospheric [composition]... glides between her and keyboards with a leisurely confidence which is both gentle but often on the precipice of unresolved tension. It’s a standout.” - Graham Reid, Elsewhere
