BIO:
D. C. Maxwell is an alt-country singer-songwriter from Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Formerly the teenage frontman of the high-octane punk band Roidz, Maxwell has grown up to become a tender songwriter who doesn’t shy away from the fiery performance of his songs. With the frenetic energy of a punk preacher, Maxwell’s live show sees him physically embody each of his songs with intense passion. A troubadour, a magnetic performer, but foremost a storyteller, the mosaic of his music creates a world of love and loss in roadside motel rooms and the inner lives of small-town dreamers.
Called “indisputably one of Tāmaki Makaurau's hottest rising talents” by Under the Radar, he has played sold-out shows across the country and in Australia. He has opened for international touring acts such as Future Islands and Alex Cameron on their respective New Zealand tours.
His debut album Lone Rider was released in 2023 via Danger Collective Records (US), and received widespread acclaim.
“A remarkably assured debut, coolly stylish and lightly alluring. Maxwell confidently strides into the spotlight.” - Rolling Stone
“The songs on Lone Rider are well-written, and invested with lush, ornate production. But Maxwell’s main strength might be his sense of storytelling; I found myself waiting for plot points to resolve as much as I looked forward to the next melodic hook.” - RNZ, Tony Stamp
