Elemental - 50 Years Of From Scratch Feat. Justin De Hart
625 Moons - From Scratch
New Zealand’s iconic and ground breaking music and performance group From Scratch celebrates 50 years of astounding work with a month of celebrations produced by the Audio Foundation.
Formed in 1974 by Phil Dadson after inspiration from British composer Cornelius Cardew’s seminal Scratch Orchestra, From Scratch has created astonishingly original music and performance over five decades and continues to this day. The current collective core-group consists of Adrian Croucher, Shane Currey, Phil Dadson, Darryn Harkness and Chris O'Connor.
To mark the milestone and to celebrate in style, From Scratch presents a month of concerts, an exhibition and a workshop which feature a huge array of performers and collaborations, including spontaneous improvisations, live music to film, classic From Scratch compositions and
collaborative new works with Aotearoa composer/performers.
The Gala Opening concert on Friday 13 September features internationally renowned percussionist Justin de Hart performing works by From Scratch founder Phil Dadson, Reuben de Lautour, Liza Lim & Alvin Lucier, plus From Scratch perform two works from their repertoire to open the concert in the stunning venue Kahui St. David's on Khyber Pass.
The month of September is packed with concerts, a workshop and collaborations with film makers and improvising musicians. Full details below.
