SATURDAY APRIL 20, 12-6PM
Get ready for Southland’s most Southland event, Rootstock ‘24: a paddock festival celebrating the humble swede. It will be an afternoon full of iconic Southland celebrations. Think swandries and gumboots, an epic line up of music featuring Pretty Wicked Head and the Desperate Men, Lachie Hayes, Darcy Kerr, Cool Runnings and more; and plenty of curious swede dishes to sample. Plus cooking demonstrations and swede throwing. Will you take out the Golden Swede?
TAKE A BUS TO THE PADDOCK.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Wilson's Veges Farm we’re throwing this party in a swede paddock on Forbes Road, just off the Winton-Lornville Highway. It can’t get more Southland than that. Bring your gumboots. The specific swede paddock will be signposted, and there is car parking onsite. However, it’s best to take the return bus - either from Invercargill or Winton. Check our Facebook page for details.
SWEDE SORBET, ANYONE?
Often thought of as livestock feed, or a bland, overboiled side dish, and sold at roadside stalls, the humble swede is being redefined. This isn’t your typical winter mash. Our talented chefs, and local bakers (and chocolatiers) are embracing the swede’s simple charm and elevating it from humble beginnings to the centerpiece.
Swede tastings are pay as you go and small enough to try a few. Prices range from $2 - $10, and all have some twist on the humble swede.
Things to note:
Details for parking, and transport to and from the event can be found on our Facebook page and Instagram @rootstocknz and will be updated closer to the event.
Cash is king. We’re in a paddock and cannot promise great connectivity for EFT-pos. Bring the cash you need.
This is a working farm. Please adhere to all health and safety signage and briefings.
Not Wheelchair Accessible
On gravel road, and in a swede paddock. Please wear appropriate footwear.
