Weekly Round-Up: Friday 13th September
It's been another quiet week for tour announcements but fear not, there are plenty coming up with December shaping up to be huge, particularly for those of you with bogan leanings. To this week though and Billy Bragg was announced to return with full band in March for two shows, American rapper Freddie Gibbs has announced two last minute New Zealand shows, playing Auckland and Wellington next week and in not so good tour news, CSS have cancelled their upcoming Auckland show.
A lot has been happening on the release front again this week, with Arcade Fire continuing to build hype for their new album releasing the first single this week with not one but two music videos, Liz Harris from Grouper has teamed up with some friends for a new 'pop' project called Helen who have released tracks from a new 7" via itunes, Real Estate have announced the release of a new album in the new year with a teaser video, first though guitarist Matt Mondanile will release a new Ducktails album titled Wish Hotel, Mark Lanegan has released an awesome new album of covers this week which has been available to stream free, The Naked and Famous have also been streaming their new album In Rolling Waves which is out today, Glasser has released another excellent single from her new album Interiors and local band Sherpa have released the first single from their second album due out later this year.
Special features on the site this week include an interview with legendary Auckland band Solid Gold Hell ahead of their show tonight in Auckland and we have a few tracks streaming, an interview with emerging talent Zacho Fraser who introduces tracks from his new EP released on Wednesday and an interview with much respected musician and artist Rachel Shearer thanks to the Audio Foundation.
Caught live this week we Bill Callahan performing 'Small Plane' from this new album Dream River (out next week) in a city park somewhere....
