Weekly Round-Up: Friday 23rd August
Some great tours trickled through this week with instrumental hip hop/jazz trio BadBadNotGood announced on Monday to play two shows next month, alt-country duo The Handsome Family announced their return for nationwide dates in October, the Gunslingers Ball are bringing over Australian country music collective Wagons in November, CSS were announced yesterday to return in November for one Auckland show at the Powerstation and if the awesome lineups for big Australian festivals like The Falls (featuring Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear and MGMT) and Meredith Festival (featuring Deerhunter, Melvins and Brian Jonestown Massacre) are any indication of whats to come, this summer could just be our best yet. Also look out for the Soundwave 2014 lineup, it's being announced later today.
We've had some awesome features on UTR this week including an exclusive advanced stream of talented young singer-songwriter Sheep Dog & Wolf's new album Egospect out today on Lil Chief Records, we caught up with Surf City ahead of the release of their second album today on Arch Hill Recordsing and previewed five tracks, the second of a series of track premieres from HDSPNS new EP VIVIDISIM premiered on Tuesday and finally, we premiered the new video from Paquin for 'Quiet Heart' off their forthcoming EP II and spoke to frontman and songwriter Tom Healy about the release.
In other release news of note, Body/Head, the new project from Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon, released their first single, Parquet Courts released the first single from a just announced new EP titled Tally All The Things That You Broke, and there are advanced album streams galore out their for your weekend perusal including new records from King Krule, Volcano Choir and Franz Ferdinand available over at NPR and Pitchfork have streams from The Dodos, over very own Ghost Wave and Forest Swords.
Caught live (kind of) this week we have Twin Shadow performing a stunning cover of 10cc ballad 'I'm Not In Love' originally released in 1975....
