Weekly Round-Up: Friday 14th June
With two quiet weeks on the tour news front, it could just be the quiet before the storm with at least two tours (one international) likely to be announced next. A couple of shows of interest did crop up this week though with The Drab Doo-Riffs announcing their Aquatic Ape Theory EP release show featuring Hallelujah Picassos and The 3D's David Saunders backed up by Street Chant, Tauranga Music Sux announced a new festival called 'Burning Wang' to be held next month and A Low Hum/Puppies revealed the first show of political singer-songwriter David Rovic's New Zealand tour in August.
In album release news, Kanye West has announced the release of new album Yezuus with a rare and rather absurd interview with the New York Times where he claims to be both the next Steve Jobs and the 'Michael Jordan of music', riot grrrl Kathleen Hanna is releasing a new album under solo alias The Julie Ruin in September titled Run Fast, No Age released the first single from their new album An Object out in August, Okkervil River have announced the release of new album The Silver Gymnasium in September, screen legend David Lynch has a new album called The Big Dream out next month and has released a single featuring vocals from Lykke Li, Portishead's Beth Gibbons is to release a new album via Domino this year and locally, Rackets have re-emerged from a quiet spell with new single 'Separator' from an album out later this year and we've heard a rumour that the Shocking Pinks will be releasing a double LP in the coming months.
Caught live this week we have Unknown Mortal Orchestra covering Otis Reading's hit single '(Sittin on) The Dock of the Bay' live on BBC's 6Music show...
