Geoff Ong Unveils New 'Diverging Lines' EP

Lovers of big-hearted Aotearoa synth-pop-rock can safely skip my preamble, hit play on Geoff Ong's new EP right now and happily bop into the weekend. Which isn't to say there aren't complex emotions at play throughout Diverging Lines, indeed Ong's title track unpacks his feelings of grief following the death of a friend due to suicide — an uplifting, ultimately life-affirming ode to making personal connections while we're here together (enlivened even more by snatches of guitar pyrotechnics).

“I lost a friend to suicide in 2024, and this song ‘Diverging Lines’ really became a vehicle for processing my grief around that time. It made me reflect a lot on relationships with friends and family… sometimes our lines run parallel to each other and then we diverge. So the question then became, ‘How do I make the most of the time that I have with the lines I'm running parallel with right now?’ and ‘How do I show up the best I can for the people I love?’”
