Listen to Babe Rainbow's New Album 'Slipper Imp And Shakaerator'
It's currently gloomy and wet outside in Tāmaki Makaurau, but inside the world of Babe Rainbow's latest album Slipper imp and shakaerator it's a hypercoloured wonderland of boppy grooves and psych-zapping melodies, released through King Gizzard's imprint p(doom) records. The Byron Bay collective weave a refreshingly imaginative kind of surf-psych-synth-boogie, befitting such Ocker countercultural wave-riding fixtures as Captain Goodvibes ("The Pig Of Steel"), swirled together with Moon Duo-like acid-fried adventurousness and a touch of upbeat H-pop fun reminiscent of R. Stevie Moore — featuring incredibly prolific King Giz frontman Stu Mackenzie on the vocodered 'Mt dub'.
Overflowing with catchiness, studio tinkering and helium vocal wordplay, you can join Babe Rainbow toasting the new era of Slipper imp and shakaerator all around Te Ika-a-Māui next week, with rising French-British songwriter Camille Jansen (who also guests on the record) and Aotearoa's own O & The Mo...
