Pumpkinhead Reuniting For 'Sloth' 30th Anniversary Tour
THE definitive grunge-funk-metal group to explode out of Ōtautahi Christchurch in the early nineties, Pumpkinhead charged hard through their initial reign from 1993 to 1996, leaving the world one landmark long player Sloth (which stayed in the New Zealand Album Charts for four weeks), as well as a handful of singles / EP releases via Wildside Records. Main stage stars at the Big Day Out in '96 (they also played the previous year), tour mates with Supergroove, supports for international heavyweights Faith No More, Fugazi, Primus and The Hard Ons, and on non-stop rotate via Max TV, Pumpkinhead were hugely popular during their first era and have now announced they're reforming later this year — rallying the troops to toast the 30th anniversary of Sloth in Tāmaki Makaurau, Pōneke and at Ōhinehou Lyttelton's Loons this coming October. Press release:
Pumpkinhead celebrate the 30th anniversary of their critically acclaimed album Sloth this year, performing three exclusive never to be repeated reunion shows.
Sloth entered the New Zealand Album Charts on 30 April 1995, peaked at number 28 and stayed in the charts for 4 weeks. Their single “I Like” made it to number 16 in the Official Top 40 singles chart 10 March 1995.
“Now “Sloth”, Pumpkinhead’s debut album, compresses the quintet’s live energy into a head spinning whirlpool of fierce punky rock, powerful pop, and tempo-hopping Faith No More style metal. Not for the innocent!” - 4.5 stars - NZ HERALD 1995
“Sloth is the sound of a band that’s already found its feet, the sound of a band that’s played 500 gigs before recording their debut album. What we’ve got here is a classy, polished debut. “I Like” these songs a lot” - Kevin List - RIP IT UP 1995
