Throwing Muses (Kristin Hersh) Return With New Album 'Moonlight Concessions'
Returning to Aotearoa this month for a four date nationwide tour, fabulously productive US songwriter Kristin Hersh is at the helm of Moonlight Concessions, the first new album in five years from her pioneering and long-running group Throwing Muses. Produced by Hersh at Stable Sound Studio in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Moonlight Concessions mainly eschews the alt-rock heft present on 2020's Sun Racket, favouring intimate arrangements of acoustic guitar, cello, strings and drums, understated sonic spaces through which her storytelling mastery hits hard.
Sparked by time spent at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas California, including a period when Hersh "had to live in our truck while we tried to find a place" — as she recently shared with The Quietus — Moonlight Concessions was pared down from a wealth of "30 or 40 songs" to a watertight final cut of nine luminescent works. Look out for her upcoming UTR interview with Mitch Marks, order Moonlight Concessions on vinyl LP / compact disc HERE, and don't miss the inimitable artist performing "material from Hersh’s mesmerising solo and Throwing Muses catalogue" at the following headline dates, joined by Ugandan songwriting star Jon Muq in Pōneke...
