Tāmaki Makaurau sci-fi punks Memory Foam zap our Monday with their new single 'Hangry (Sushi Train)', plus mouthwatering anime visuals coaxed onto screen by Michael Logie, their second collaboration together following 2023's eye-melting 'Moon Power'. Sparked by singer Yuko Miyoshi's firsthand experiences working in Japanese restaurants, Logie's AI-assisted clip runs amok with a conveyor belt pileup of increasingly absurd rice / nori / salmon / mixed vegetable monstrosities. "The cartoony parts were done using ai tricks (no i didn’t have the time or budget to animate this the traditional way)... During the making of this the tools changed constantly, ai generation is moving very fast.

I started out with SDXL, then moved to SD 3.5, then most was done with FLUX. I always use LORAs (ai trained on an image set i curate) and i edit the images using inpainting or good old photoshop if they aren’t what i want.

For image2video i started out using sd video locally, then paid for luma dream machine, then runway, then kling, then hailuoai. hailuoai was by far the best for this animated content.

The disadvantage with using these online services is they don’t generate NSFW content, and they are expensive. I processed hundreds of stills, probably only 20% ended up used in this video.

Luckily there is a new locally run img2video model that has just come out. So my next set of videos will be back to blood, guts, and nightmares come true. Because that is what is appropriate in this strange and ugly future" — Michael Logie
