Massacre (US) Announce Debut New Zealand Show

Heavily hinted at by the indomitable Valhalla Touring team early this week, US death metal veterans Massacre are now confirmed to be playing in Aotearoa New Zealand for the first time ever, taking over the subterranean depths of Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Bar on 7th May. Not to be confused with Fred Frith and Bill Laswell's similarly named avant-rock group, the extreme metal incarnation of Massacre first coalesced in Tampa, Florida's explosive mid-'80s scene, bringing on board original Death vocalist Kam Lee on mic duties — who still fronts the band alongside founding bassist Michael Borders plus recent recruits Rogga Johansson and Jon Rudin — eventually unleashing in '91 their classic debut From Beyond on Earache Records. Florida death metal veterans MASSACRE are set to make their long-awaited first time ever appearance in Aotearoa. On this tour the band will perform the legendary album From Beyond in its entirety plus many surprises.

Established in 1984, Massacre initially emerged as a heavy/power metal band, later transitioning to death metal upon the arrival of Allen West and Kam Lee, the latter credited with inventing the death growl, first showcased in their 1986 demo.

Throughout its history, the group transformed from its early incarnations, comprising former members from Mantas (precursor to Death), and Death, to achieving a resurgent success in 2021, culminating in the release of their studio album RESURGENCE. 2024 saw the release of Massacres fifth studio album NECROLUTION via Agonia Records, as the band persists in delivering their distinctive old school death metal sound and presenting fresh material.
