Ukulele Death Squad (AUS) Announce New Zealand Headline Shows
Already revealed to be playing as part of WOMAD Aotearoa 2025's mega-powered lineup of international guests, Ukulele Death Squad have considerately announced a pair of North Island headline gigs for fans who can't make it along to New Plymouth this March. First formed in Adelaide, the cultish collective staunchly proclaim themselves to be the "most dangerous ukulele band" on our blue planet, riling up partygoers at festivals across their homeland and EU / the UK. Taking away the Most Popular Soul/Funk/R&B accolade at the 2024 South Australian Music Awards (plus multiple peoples choice awards in the past) following the launch of their Baby Don't Fuck With Me EP, Ukulele Death Squad's sound ventures beyond nylon string-plucking into kaleidoscopic horns / keys and soul-funk grooves. Don't miss them squeezing onto local stages in Auckland and Hamilton, just ahead of WOMAD...
"New Zealand has been on our bucket list for so long now… honestly - we’ve taken way too long to come over. We know Kiwis are not easily impressed by Aussies, so we’ll be pulling out all the stops to win their undying love". — Ashlee Randell (trombonist)

Press release:
Cult Aussie folk act, Ukulele Death Squad, are embarking on their first New Zealand tour this March, with shows in New Plymouth (WOMAD Festival), Auckland, and Hamilton from 8-16 March 2025.
Known for their theatrical live performances, their music blends folk and R&B, pushing the humble ukulele to its limits. The last 12 months have seen the band tour their EP "Baby Don't F*** With Me" extensively with a series of sold-out shows across Australia and Germany. This is the group’s first time making the leap to NZ.
Their latest release, “Baby Don’t F***With Me” features addictive hooks and an unparalleled level of groove, and won them the title of "Most Popular Soul/Funk/R&B" at the South Australian Music Awards. Their music video for their single "Hands Tied" received nominations at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and Italy’s international Festival of LGBTQ+ Cinema and Queer Culture. Their chaotic and undeniably fun performances have earned them comparisons to a soundscape fitting for a Tarantino scene set in a Mexican cantina.
As well as touring Germany, Ireland, France, Belgium and the UK, Ukulele Death Squad have a cult following in Australia’s folk scene, winning multiple music awards and gracing the stages of festivals such as WOMADelaide, WOMAD UK, Woodford Folk Festival, Boomtown (UK), Dranouter (Belgium), and the National Folk Festival.
