From Aotearoa to the world — Unknown Mortal Orchestra reignite their IC (Improvisation, Collaboration) series with the announcement of IC-02 Bogotá, teased with the extended subtropical interplay of lead track 'earth 1'. "Unlike the normal UMO albums, the IC series put a premium on experimentation, spontaneity and improvisation over vocal-based songwriting and arrangement, and the results are headier and leave the pop genre altogether. In that sense, the IC series is seen as something for musicians and hardcore umoheads, but also for anyone curious to hear what happens when a band goes to a city they love and without words, records the experience of a certain place and time on their instruments".
Based these days in the UK, Port Chalmers songwriting icon Nadia Reid unfurled her fourth studio album Enter Now Brightness — recorded with an all-star cast of instrumental contributors and exploring "themes of change, motherhood, home, and heartbreak".
Not to be confused with the similarly named local electronica spellcrafter, Tāmaki Makaurau all-caps post-punk / garage rockers CCTV unleashed their pleasantly rawkus and grunty debut six track Austerity Blues EP. Listen up and yowl along at their mini-tour release gigs, tonight at 605 Morningside and at Tauranga's Voodoo Lounge this Saturday (tickets for both shows on sale HERE).
Recorded over three years and now out on the world via Papaiti Records, Not Boyz Anymore is the contemplative, sonically adventurous, slowcore-adjacent second album from Te Papaioea voyagers SODA BOYZ — currently in the midst of an eleven date summer tour of Australia. "Not Boyz Anymore is woven into the band's aging through trauma, memories, loss and coming to terms with transitioning".
Aotearoa post-rock / doomgazers Dos-Ovni unleashed an apocalyptic audio-visual combo, given form as their haunting and thunderous new single 'Big Rock'.
