Tom Lark Announces 'Moonlight Hotel' Album Release Tour

Subject of an eyebrow-raising recent profile of his rollercoaster career (so far) over on the AudioCulture site, Tom Lark aka Shannon Fowler moseys into 2025 with the announcement of his second album Moonlight Hotel. Finalist for Te Kaipuoro Taketake Toa | Best Folk Artist and the prestigious Taite Music Prize with the frazzled country-psych of 2023's Brave Star, we have in fact already heard the lead track from Lark's new record, spaghetti-soul-pop-bop 'Dumb Luck', with his next single 'Rock & Roll Baby' out soon on 14th February.

Releasing his new record in full on 4th April, the multi-faceted Ōtautahi songwriter / producer (who also releases tunes as Shannon Matthew Vanya, amongst others) will be saddling up for a triple date release tour of Aotearoa, taking him to Tāmaki Makaurau, Pōneke and his garden city hometown. A collection of tunes exploring "the parallels between his family's historical displacement following the 1929 earthquake that destroyed Murchison – a pioneer town in the upper West Coast of the South Island – and his own following the 2011 earthquakes that levelled much of Ōtautahi," you can preorder the vinyl LP and compact disc editions of Moonlight Hotel HERE. “When I began writing ‘Dumb Luck’ I was thinking a lot about perseverance but also how funny ‘dumb luck’ is as a phrase. Despite hard work, sometimes things don’t pay off and other times things work out in total naiveté, for no other reason than some weird cosmic alignment.

That said, I don’t really subscribe to the idea of ‘dumb luck’. Instead, perhaps being ‘lucky’ is the ability to make the best of circumstances as they present themselves; maybe luck is no more than finding a silver lining”.
