Mark de Clive-Lowe Wellington & Raglan Headline Shows Announced

Chris Cudby / Friday 17th January, 2025 12:48PM

A transformative figure in electronic jazz / club culture on a global scale and now based in his mother's homeland of Japan, Mark de Clive-Lowe is touching back down in Aotearoa for summer headline dates in Pōneke and Whaingaroa / Raglan. First making his mark locally as part of Tāmaki Makaurau's jazz community, playing at legendary nineties venues Cause Celebre and Deschlers — as detailed in de Clive-Lowe's illuminating 2024 AudioCulture conversation with Gareth Shute — the multi-faceted instrumentalist / composer / producer / DJ has worked with such luminaries as Lauryn Hill, Jody Watley, Bugz in the Attic, 4Hero, Illa J, Omar, Myele Manzanza, Manuel Bundy, François Kevorkian, and countless more.

With more than 200 studio releases under his belt so far, including via such influential imprints as Tru Thoughts, !K7 Music, and Kog Transmissions, de Clive-Lowe will be joined at the capital's Moon 1 by Hudge, Dan Aikido and Koa, and supported at Raglan's The Yard Cafe & Venue by Hudge and Cian. Also playing at Tāmaki's free all-ages Somethin' Else outdoor festival in Aotea Square, don't miss the maestro moving the crowd on home turf this summer...

Press release:

Mark de Clive-Lowe, who currently resides in Japan, has made moves all over the world, from London to LA to Tokyo, staying relevant for more than 30 years collaborating with the likes of Bugz in the Attic, 4Hero, Lauren Hill, Jody Watley, Omar, percussionist Sammy Figueroa, bass player Pino Palladino to name just a few...

Mark is a musical wizard on stage - juggling grand piano, synths, live sampling and beat making all on-the-fly, brought to life with a casual ease that’s mind-boggling. Pianist, composer, jazz musician, live remixer and electronic music producer, the Japanese-New Zealander was raised in New Zealand where he learned piano from a young age developing an avid passion for jazz through his father’s record collection. In high school in NZ and Japan, he fell in love with sample-heavy 90s hip hop and early UK drum’n’bass – laying the foundation for a lifetime of genre-bending sonic adventures.
