Kim Deal Shares Debut Solo Album 'Nobody Loves You More'
A figure who has very much defined the shape of US alt-rock (and repeatedly bashed it to bits) over the course of nearly four decades with The Breeders, The Amps and Pixies, Kim Deal has decided the world is finally ready for her debut solo album Nobody Loves You More. A god-tier, perpetually inventive songwriter whose muse has never left her side (calling to mind such similarly evergreen giants as Jonathan Richman and Roy Montgomery), Deal sounds free to roam and reflect on her new record. Deal swirls together a joyfully diverse palette, spanning mariachi horns, crunchy lo-tech electronics, woozy pedal steel guitar, scorching post-punk and even showtunes-y string arrangements — when not laying down masterful fuzz-rock on 'Disobedience' and current radio hit 'A Good Time Pushed'. Her voice hits like a hug on the balladic title track, The Shangri-Las-like 'Are You Mine' and 'Summerland', gently crooning "I'm not even tired / This world's for me".
Joined in the studio at various points by Breeders bandmates Mando Lopez, Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson and Britt Walford, plus Jack Lawrence (The Greenhorns), Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan (both of Savages), with engineer Steve Albini at the controls tracking 'A Good Time Pushed' (before he passed earlier this year), Nobody Loves You More is of course an eminently listenable celebration of Deal's singular vision. Appreciate the artistry, grip Nobody Loves You More physically on seemingly all formats via 4AD, and make a wish for local live dates...
'Nobody Loves You More' is out today on vinyl LP, CD, cassette and major streaming services via 4AD.
