Barnard's Star 25th Anniversary Reunion Show and Vinyl Release Announced
Pinacolada Soundsystem and Leather Jacket Records are synergising to unearth a local sonic gem this summer, reissuing the self-titled 1999 album from Ōtautahi's Barnard's Star for a new generation of shoegaze / avant-rock / electronic appreciators in 2024. The long out of print creation of Marcus Winstanley, Nick Tamere, Helen Greenfield and Tyrone Thorn, Barnard's Star will be available on vinyl LP for the first time (the late '90s was the futuristic era of the compact disc). The innovative group themselves are playing a very special 25th anniversary show toasting the release at Space Academy on 14th December, with dream-fuzz duo special guests T. G. Shand. Revisit Barnard's Star or hear the album anew below, nab an early Christmas present at the gig ("an evening of ambient and mellifluous music") and experience some of the finest squalling sounds from Aotearoa's noisy underground...
"It's all happening! Barnard's Star 25th Anniversary Reunion Show and Vinyl Release! Ōtautahi's shoegazers Barnard's Star — Marcus Winstanley, Nick Tamere, Helen Greenfield, Tyrone Thorn — released their legendary self-titled CD in 1999. Local tastemaker Tim Baird has been hassling them to get back together and reissue it on vinyl ever since, and we're delighted to be making it happen as another Pinacolada Soundsystem X Leather Jacket Records joint!" — Matthias McGregor (Leather Jacket Records)

Ōtautahi's late 90’s hypnotic shoegaze legends Barnard's Star are reuniting for a 25th Anniversary Reunion Show to celebrate the vinyl release of their 1999 self-titled EP.
Barnard's Star was formed in 1996 at Canterbury University, featuring Marcus Winstanley (Minisnap, Cowboy Machine), Nick Guy (Lytteltronics, Torlesse Super Group), Helen Greenfield (Mela, The L.E.D.s) and Tyrone Thorn (Swinging Tasty Bag).
