Adam Hattaway and the Haunters Unveil New Album 'High Horse'

Doling out a champion run of country-rockin' singles (and even a video game) over the past four months, Ōtautahi's Adam Hattaway steers the ship home with today's release of his sixth studio album High Horse. Lyttelton icon Marlon Williams donned his producer's hat to record High Horse at Te Rā studio in Canterbury’s Te Waipapa / Diamond Harbour with Hattaway and the Haunters — reportedly aiming for a stripped-back, “frustratingly quiet” sound, while showcasing the crack musicianship of Elmore Jones (also co-writer of High Horse), Michael Kime, Mark Perkins (Merk), Lorenz Weston-Salzer, Erny Belle, Holdyn Skinner, Tess Liautaud, Ray Suen, and Williams himself.

This intimate approach shines a light on Hattaway's glorious vocal talents on 'Conical Hill' ("Baby let's make time slow down), the gospel-tinted 'I Don't Believe In Love, country-gothic ballad 'Dark Places' and the world-weary ivory-tinkling blues of 'Mercy For The Week' and 'Smile', while 'If You Got Nowhere Else To Go' blends hip-wiggling latin elements with Blue Nile-like wooziness. Which is not to say Hattaway has ditched his knack for unabashedly rocking out. 'My Screaming Machine' and glowering opener 'Good Times' pack the Stonesy swagger beloved by fans, even sporting a touch of glam-disco on 'Paranoid Kid'.
