Spotlight: The Elovaters (US) - Wellington & Auckland Shows
Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, The Elovaters have been cooking up sizzling reggae / surf-rock grooves "out of one of the coldest places in the country" from 2014 onwards. They've just unfurled a new deluxe edition of their hit 2023 album Endless Summer, cementing a connection with Aotearoa's own dubby bass-loving culture with features from homegrown superstars The Black Seeds and Corrella. Naturally enough the multi award-winning collective are heading down under, performing at Auckland's The Powerstation on 26th November supporting Jamaican reggae royals The Original Wailers — who arose from Bob Marley's legendary group, with mic duties handled by Al Anderson — and greeting the start of summer with a headline soirée at Wellington's Meow on 30th November.
The genre-spanning team of singer / guitarist Jackson Wetherbee, John Alves, Matt Link, Nick Asta, Derrick Cabral and Greg Nectow have achieved notable Billboard chart success with four studio records under their belts so far, including 2018's breakout Defy Gravity, which hit number one on the Reggae Albums chart. Frontman Wetherbee's journey has seen him overcoming "a difficult speech impediment that came with a difficult stutter" as a child to lead one of the most beloved contemporary reggae groups in the US, read his conversation with Billboard discussing their musical roots HERE. Their Endless Summer club tour consistently sold out across the West Coast in the States, don't miss your chance to groove along with The Elovaters locally at the following dates...
