Music First Present Kenji Takimi (Japan, Crue-L Records) Auckland Show
A key figure in the open-eared, loose-limbed realm of leftfield house, "godfather of the underground Tokyo scene" Kenji Takimi has been invited to Tāmaki Makaurau by club connoisseurs Music First. Rainbow Disco Club resident and founder of the Crue-L Records imprint with the aim of releasing "cutting-edge, timeless music that didn’t necessarily fit the norm of what most people come to expect from a Japanese independent label" from 1991 onwards, Takimi has remixed such major figures as Cornelius, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Nina Kraviz, Sebastian Tellier, Cut Copy, Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), Dimitri From Paris, and Boris (!). Headlining the new Double Whammy this spring on 15th November, do not miss this pioneering DJ / producer making magic happen with MF residents Frank Booker and Samuel Harmony — get tickets today...

Press release:
Kenji Takimi has been an important and prolific underground figure in Japanese dance music for decades, and one of the true pioneers of the left field House/Dance music worldwide as a DJ as well as a producer.
His record label, Crue-L Records, has been at the forefront of Japanese alternative music since its inception over 30 years ago. From his remixes of Cornelius, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Nina Kraviz, Sebastian Tellier, Cut Copy, Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), Dimitri From Paris, Boris and countless more, to his studio work with dance favourites Theo Parrish, DJ Harvey and many more.
A Godfather of the underground Tokyo scene and resident at the famous Rainbow Disco Club - Kenji's characterises himself as a “New Romantic DJ” - his spacey, balearic & eclectic selections from his famously extensive record collection have garnered him an international following. The king of left turns and fresh ears, Kenji’s sets linger long in the memory and it gives us great pleasure to welcome Takimi-san back to Tāmaki Makaurau this Spring for a very special party at Double Whammy.
