Listen To Vor-stellen's New Album 'Armature For A Painting'

Chris Cudby / Thursday 17th October, 2024 2:56PM

Making their mark with the sculptured sonics of 2023's debut double album Parallelograms (Flying Nun Records), Vor-stellen re-emerge to sprawl across both sides of a shiny vinyl disc with their two track Armature for a Painting, recently released via UK imprint Feral Child. A-side 'eternal return of the transient organ' pairs elegantly executed, perpetual motion motorik grooves with contemplative flourishes of piano, gauzy vocal reverberations and time-warping string textures, sinking in over nearly 18 minutes — adventurous club DJs take note.

On the flipside, 'grendel' feels more ominous, locking into Chrome-esque new wave / avant-punk zones for more than 16 mind-frying minutes — "step back for a new idea... step back and look again" — moving this listener to gush that Armature for a Painting is undeniably a local release highlight of 2024. Go catch Vor-stellen live bandmates Brendan Moran (Subliminals / avoid!avoid), Matthew Heine (S.P.U.D. / Solid Gold Hell), Taipua Adams (Terror of the Deep / The Perms) and Tashi Stewart plus "maybe some others" at Audio Foundation with the mighty Drorgan next Friday, and hunt down a vinyl LP copy to spin for eternity...
