Jon Toogood Unveils Debut Solo Album 'Last Of The Lonely Gods'

Beloved by fans as frontman of Shihad, whose raucous performance of their 1993 debut album Churn at last year's SAVE THE b! fundraiser was majestically pulverising, Jon Toogood today caps off a legendary three decades of releases (including works with The Adults) with his first official solo album Last Of The Lonely Gods. Stripping the fuzz overdrive armour away from his songcraft to reveal crisp acoustic clarity and emotional rawness, Last Of The Lonely Gods was written following the passing Toogood's mother during in 2021 — and brother-in-law soon after — when the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame artist found himself processing grief, reflecting on his journey with only guitar and songbook.

In an accompanying new mini-documentary about the record, Toogood candidly discusses the surprising role pre-existing tinnitus (a looming danger for all gigging musicians) played in catalysing his most personal collection of songs to date.
