Listen to Goodwill's Debut Album 'Kind Hands'

The gorgeously gripping debut album Kind Hands by Ōtautahi songwriter Goodwill aka Will McGillivray is finally out in the world. Recorded and produced primarily solo in the multi-instrumentalist's home studio, set in his living room with a beach view, Goodwill aimed to "write in a way where a feeling of hope or positivity isn’t far away at any point, even if the song is on the moodier side." Newer songs like the soft and dewy ‘Luck’, the nostalgic ‘Xhale’ and the gentle analogue synths of ‘Kalm Hands’ are amongst a nine track collection that pines for gratitude and ponders fortuitousness, with instrumentation full of skin-touch warmth — fans of Alex G, Perfume Genius and Andy Shauf may be especially likely to be moved by Kind Hands.

The physical vinyl LP edition of Kind Hands is hitting local record stores from tomorrow, pressed in partnership with Winegum Records and Leather Jacket Records. Wanting to hear it all live? Fear not, next month sees an album release show at Christchurch’s Space Academy. Plus, he is joining labelmate Mousey for all three dates of her own record release tour. “The recording process is truly a blur to reflect on… progress is often made in big waves, few and far between. There’ll be an hour of pure inspiration where everything I try works and I know exactly what to do, and then 3 weeks where I’m not quite sure what the next move should be. This record is the sound of one person spending unknown amounts of time in one living room studio — running back and forth from a synth to the computer to press record, lying on the couch in moments without inspiration. There’s always some hope in these songs, and I’m proud of that.”
