LIPS Unleash Halloween Single 'The Wolf' feat. E from Eels

The storytelling superpower of Aotearoa's LIPS reeemerges in their fresh-wounded new single 'The Wolf', featuring guest vocals by E of US alt-rock stars Eels. Led by Steph Brown and Finn Ikner, the Silver Scroll winners prep us for Halloween in their signature theatrical style with a hair-raising tale of revenge, where sirens howl, synths shake, and the bassline and beat gallops towards the moon. As custom with the legacy of Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller', E's baritone monologue speaks out near the end: “Should I grab a cup of coffee... or kill?”

In what “will be the best thing since sliced head!” LIPS are throwing a Halloween Monster Bash at the end of this month at Tāmaki's Neck of the Woods, with Thee Golden Geese (playing their final ever show) and Cootie Cuties, featuring thee Geese frontman honking at the decks as DJ Matthew Creepy Crawley too. That’s not all though, as LIPS are on the lineup for Kiriata Me Puoro - An Animation And Music Festival, where animations by Maya K Templer will be exhibited in tandem with their performance on 16th November. I’ve been an Eels fan for the longest time, and was truly honoured to hear from him. I still can’t believe he was nice enough to go along with our nonsense." - Fen Ikner 

"Many of our songs have been inspired by Ro’s screenplays; we like to imagine the music that would be playing in that scene and then write from that. For this song we reverse engineered it, writing the song first then asking Ro to contribute some words. I don’t want to be too specific, as that might ruin the surprise of the track!” - Steph Brown
