Our release roundup is back after a week's hiatus (due to an elegant combo of ongoing staff sickness and schedule overload) and there has certainly been a tune or two launched in the interim. Let us get back up to speed together – revisit our news coverage of Reb Fountain, Adam Hattaway, Neive Strang, Womb, BIRDPARTY, Phoebe Rings, Best Bets, Delaney Davidson x Barry Saunders and Juno Is, then scroll downwards for more recent local highlights from Recitals, The Pleasure Majenta, Snivelling Swineheards, Cut Shapez, Frog Power, Sivle Talk, Lontalius, Anna Coddington, Body of Work, Wet Denim, and tracks from the forthcoming Obscure Desire vinyl 12" reissue.

Absolutely huge news for aficionados of Aotearoa's diverse dance music history, the lost classic 1986 self-titled EP from Tāmaki Makaurau new wave / italo-disco / fashion boutique / salon trio Obscure Desire is receiving a much-needed vinyl reissue via UK imprint Emotional Rescue. The liner notes unlock crucial secrets about a group that is mythical to those who've chanced upon them — "Check it out, check it out, check it out, check it out, check it out... YEAH!"

Originally based in Te Whanganui-A-Tara and now scattered about the globe, Aotearoa indie supercollective Recitals unveiled their I GOT GOLD! EP via Flying Nun Records — five new works from the sonic mind-meld of Tharushi, Carla, Sam, Olivia, Christian, Josh and Xanthe.

Hailing from Tāmaki Makaurau and now based in Europe, The Pleasure Majenta — Lawrence Goodwin, EJ Alfaro, Chris Wratt, Martha Rose, Run Arnadottir, Aaron Longville, Jong-Yung Lee and Jake Preston — reemerge with the brooding audio-visual ominousness of 'Sven'. New album All We Have Is Time is out tomorrow, 5th October!

Achieving the godlike number one spot on the 95bFM Top Ten with their debut anthem 'Deathbubble Aneurysm', Tāmaki Makaurau's Snivelling Swineheards now treat fans to single number three — the beer-swigging, likely lethal punk riffage of 'OAP'. "You ever accidentally killed an elderly neighbour with the strength of your sick riff? Yeah, didn’t think so, nerdlinger. Snivelling Swineheards did, with the scorching sounds of their blistering tack ‘OAP’..."

Explosive on stage and now blasting through my shitty laptop speakers, LGBT HxC is a new twelve track live album from "PISSxSHITcore from Tāmaki" Cut Shapez. Sing along in your workplace with such classics as 'It's My Party (So I Act Like A Dog Cunt)', 'Yoinky Sploinky', 'PISS SHIT CRY SNOT', 'Duckduckgoose' and more. "LGBT HxC is a live album, a lil’ kiss goodbye and goodnight from shapez. There’s no overdubbed vocals so as the album goes on you can really feel Jardene coming apart at the seams. Have a listen, have a laugh and have a good time. Because life is short, sharp and shocking."

Nu roundup, nu Frog Power. 'saint xtina' is real deal outsider / weirdo pop music from Ōtepoti, with a unforgettable DIY video that transcends such dualistic notions as "good" or "bad", instead inhabiting an unfathomable state of utter "being" — ribbit.

'Bottom Feeder' is the debut single Sivle Talk (pronounced Civil Talk), the "one-man-band" project of Tane Cotton, formerly from Allophones — a raucous post-punk protest against the numbskull public statements of our current Beehive biz-men.

Recent Metro magazine interviewee Lontalius enters a new era with 'we learn from our mistakes', incorporating post-punk textures and urgency into his emotive, dreamy sound world — "the first single from my new album."

Anna Coddington makes brightly-hued, angular new wavey moves on 'GAINZ' — a standout track from her recent album of Māori funk TE WHAKAMIHA, with brand new video shot / edited by Fen Ikner (Lips).

'Maudlin To None' is the second tune to emerge from Sarah Illingworth's project Body of Work with songwriter Dan B. Hill, a gently yearning dream-pop ballad, featuring the instrumental prowess of Shannon Fowler (Tom Lark) and Julien Dyne. Body of Work's forthcoming collection of "break-up songs" Secondhand Blues will be out before the end of this year. "I struggled to feel a sense of home for a long time. I did it to myself in many ways, moving around and moving on, but it's a bittersweet thing; having the opportunity to explore can leave you feeling disconnected, even while you're connecting with new people and communities — like you belong everywhere and nowhere all at once. I feel lucky to feel grounded now, close to family and friends, and like there doesn't need to be one individual that anchors me — other than myself and the person she's become."

Touring all around Aotearoa this spring season, Pōneke indie rockers Wet Denim completed the sonic jigsaw puzzle that is their seven song sophomore On The Line EP. "On The Line traverses a wide range of themes including gratitude, addiction, love, longing, self-perception, and acceptance — it is a deeply personal record to us all in different ways, and we hope that people will find connection to the music when they hear it!"
