Pōneke's progressive funk / soul rollers Revulva are getting their "rusty asses back on the road" this spring, touring in celebration of their self-titled debut album, out in full on 11th October. The eight-piece collective of Phoebe Johnson (Dateline), Lily Rose Shaw, Toby Leman, Hector McLachlan, Kaito Walley, Lennox Grootjans, Mysty Cooke and Zane Hawkins make up one of the most talented gigging groups in Aotearoa. They’ve been working hard to liberate their debut, which was crafted over a period of almost two years — engineered, mixed and co-produced with Lee Prebble at Surgery Studios.

Are you ready for the Revulva-lution? Hear the sonic infusions of recent singles like road-rager 'Beep Beep' and the sensual 'Bush Bash' live nationwide. You can pitch in for Revulva’s crowdfunding campaign to cover vinyl manufacturing costs via Holiday Records HERE, plus you can even win a custom REVULVA car number plate (not for road-use) and necklace. You can also pre-order Revulva on vinyl LP via the group's Bandcamp page HERE, look forward to Revulva bringing the party across the motu at the following dates...

"It’s been a heavy year of making music videos, and getting the vinyl organised, so we’re excited to celebrate all this mahi by getting together for these 8 shows! Audiences can expect to get involved with the usual hijinks - audience participation, group moaning / harmonies / choreo, burning solos, and good boogies."

Press release:

Taking their cues from Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Jamiroquai, Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock, Minnie Ripperton, and Prince, Revulva’s self-titled debut album reimagines the anything-goes energy of New York City’s 1970s downtown scene and London’s 1990s funk and soul renaissance through an antipodean perspective where awkward, deadpan humour goes hand in hand with the band’s social concerns and inherent feminist politics. The 10 track album features hit singles, Bush Bash, Beep Beep and Heroin Chic alongside songs from the band's beginning as a 5-piece 5 years ago, and the upcoming, bitter-sweet lead single Nigel.
