Watch Fazerdaze's Video For New Single 'Cherry Pie'

The showbiz wheels are spinning slightly slower than usual on our newsdesk this week, as the UTR editorial team are battling the spring lurgy. Released to adoring fans yesterday, 'Cherry Pie' is the lead single from Aotearoa alt-rock star Fazerdaze's just announced new album Soft Power, songwriter Amelia Murray's first long player since 2017's global hit Morningside. Swirling together elements of dream-pop, new wave grooves and woozy synth-pop, the bittersweet 'Cherry Pie' could be an antipodean cousin to the works of Molly Nilsson — synergising gauzy textures with hook-powered majesty, as Murray ponders the inevitable passing of time.

Emphasising the widescreen / slightly spooky John Carpenter feel to the song, Murray co-directed the accompanying video Frances Carter, made with support from NZ On Air. A glamorous Murray feels cool breeze while riding down a urban lost highway with unseen driver, suspense tips into frantic abstraction before the artist enters a new day with reinforced agency. Also set to include 2023 single 'Bigger', Soft Power will be out in full on 15th November via Buttrfly Records / section1, available for preorder in a variety of formats including silver vinyl LP HERE...

"'Cherry Pie' began as lyrics on my phone during my first overseas trip to LA almost ten years ago. Now, at 31, this song has journeyed with me through many different versions of myself.

Frances and I crafted the video around a character who travels solo, letting go of what no longer serves her to finally take the wheel and steer into her next era".

'Soft Power' is out on Friday 15th November via Buttrfly Records / section1, preorder HERE.
