Roy Irwin Performs At The LIVE MUSIC BAR - Episode Six

UTR / Sports Team / Thursday 5th September, 2024 9:18AM

Our new LIVE MUSIC BAR episode showcases a lovely intimate set by Tāmaki Makaurau songwriter Roy Irwin, who played the title track to 2021’s Comedian EP, unreleased ballad ‘God Would Care’, engaged with an illuminating round of questions from the audience, and concluded with another unreleased tune ‘Hedonism’.

LIVE MUSIC BAR is Aotearoa’s new musical web series — presented by UTR, produced by Sports Team and made with support from NZ On Air!

Join your host Navakatoa Tekela-Pule and our live studio audience for dynamite performances and revealing chats with a special guest selection of Aotearoa’s top talents. All filmed in our eponymous venue within the beating heart of Tāmaki Makaurau, LIVE MUSIC BAR is an authentic and innovative nightclub experience bridging the online / irl divide. Shot by James Milne (Chabs & Milky, Lawrence Arabia) and Sports Team using vintage camera gear, YOU are invited to attend a gig at LIVE MUSIC BAR — launched in conjunction with UTR’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

Icon of Tāmaki Makaurau's sonic underground, Roy Irwin’s recorded oeuvre includes three solo albums so far, Self-Titled (2020), King Of Pop (2017) — recently praised by Rolling Stone as "a DIY garage-pop gem that deserved wider acclaim" — and S.O.D.A. (2016), plus numerous E.P. / single releases, including 2023 SRN fave 'Clover' and streaming hit 'Demons Cave' (currently over 8 millions streams on Spotify). Outside of their award-winning solo work (S.O.D.A. received the 2016 Dirtbag Award for Best Cassette), Irwin is one half of electronic mavericks NO CLIP (with P.H.F.), and has been a member of punk hellraisers CINDY and Cool Runnings.
