Office Dog Share Single / Video 'Intact' + Announce New 'Doggerland' EP

Stars of our newest LIVE MUSIC BAR episode, Office Dog have been fearlessly running laps since their debut record Spiel. They have resurfaced with new single ‘Intact’ from their just-announced forthcoming EP Doggerland — seven tracks out on 20th September via Flying Nun Records locally and New West Records internationally.

"You the wave and me the cave" is the profound first line from lead single from the EP ‘Intact’. Winners of the 2023 SRN Award for Te Rōpū Mariu (Favourite Group), the Tāmaki-based trio of Kane Strang, Rassani Tolovaa and Mitchell Innes continue to demonstrate their mastery of lyrical restraint and visceral imagery, empowered by their emotional, overdriven sound that feels your wounds are opening yet healing at the same time. Baker and artist Jed McCammon jogs against some rope wrapped around him in the accompanying video directed by Daniel Blackball (who also created the new EP cover artwork). Made with support from NZ On Air, it’s set at a neglected but emotionally significant racecourse in Ōtepoti, taking viewers on an illuminating journey for freedom.

Don’t wait a doggone minute to see this act at their all-ages single release show at Tāmaki Makaurau's new Flying Nun basement venue this evening, as it’ll be Office Dog's final performance before they fly to North America to support Nada Surf on a huge fifteen-date tour. Watch and listen to ‘Intact’, pre-order the album on limited edition clear vinyl pronto then go for a walkie to Karangahape Road, tonight’s gig begins at 6pm…

"Doggerland is the name of a place in the northern hemisphere that was once inhabited by people and then completely submerged by the sea. Since themes of water, surfacing, and things like that were naturally appearing in my lyrics as we worked on these songs in late 2023, we named the EP after it. I’m glad we did because I feel like this word not only hints at the lyrical themes this time around but also at how these tracks are different sonically from Spiel and other songs we’ve done — they’re definitely softer, more fluid and spontaneous.

The video was made with a bunch of close friends of the band in Dunedin, including director Daniel Blackball, who has done all of our album artwork so far. My childhood home actually used to back onto the abandoned racecourse we shot at, and I’ve been wanting to make something there since being back home this last year or so.” - Kane Strang
