Have you ever wondered what it's like to attend a glitzy showbiz soirée as a nominee for and / or winner of Aotearoa most prestigious musical accolades? Produced by Sports Team, creators of UTR's LIVE MUSIC BAR series, An Artist's Journey | AMA24 puts viewers in the shoes of four finalists for the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards as they pottered about May's star-studded event at Tāmaki Makaurau's Viaduct Events Centre. Sports Team entrusted Handycams to Ben Sinclair and Tristan Deck of The Beths (winners of Te Tino Kāhui Manu Taki o te Tau - Best Group and Te Tino Pukaemi o te Tau - Album of the Year) who arrived via public transport, Amamelia (winner of Te Manu Taki Tāhiko o te Tau / Best Electronic Artist), Erny Belle (finalist for Te Tino Pukaemi o te Tau / Album of the Year) and Grecco Romank (finalists for Te Manu Taki Whanokē o te Tau / Best Alternative Artist).
Editors Annabel Kean, Callum Devlin and Conor Bowden then stitched together the candid video footage into a multi-perspective mashup of family, friends, glamorous outfits (Grecco got the lime green jump on brat summer), nervous excitement, onstage sensory overload, afterparty excess, glorious victory for some, and a whirlwind cast of local heroes.
Currently touring the US with Alvvays and 2023 Taite Music Prize winner Princess Chelsea (plus her Dream Warriors band), local fans of The Beths can next catch the whole gang touring nationwide this September. Aficionados of Grecco Romank and Erny Belle better make a beeline to this Saturday's GREAT SOUNDS GREAT festival in Pōneke, both acts are also taking part in the Exploding Rainbow Orchestra - Songbook Volume Three extravaganza at Tāmaki's Hopetoun Alpha in October...
