Sons and grandsons of tropicália titan Gilberto Gil, Música Popular Brasileira (MPB) superstars Gilsons literally have the rich lineage of Brazilian music running through their veins. The award-winning family band of Francisco, João and José Gil have announced their return to Aotearoa, welcoming the onset of summer at Tāmaki Makaurau's spacious new Double Whammy! on 7th December, brought to you by Mucho Aroha Music.
Blending elements of pop rock, samba, rap and Bahian rhythms into their bright multi-genre sound from 2018 onwards, Gilsons received two Brazilian Music Awards in 2023 — for Pop/Rock: Group and Audiovisual Project for their hit video 'Pra Gente Acordar (O Filme)' — and were nominated for for the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese Language.
