Music First Present Musclecars (NYC) - Auckland Show Announced

Native New Yorkers musclecars aka Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield will be working their dancefloor magic in Aotearoa for the first time ever this spring, brought to you by Tāmaki Makaurau's own Music First. Responsible for a Midas touch run of house / soul / jazz / electronic singles and EPs from 2020 onwards, the Brooklyn DJ / production duo have had a significant year thus far, releasing both their kaleidoscopic double album debut Sugar Honey Iced Tea! — "13 tracks that sonically come together to offer a profound lens into the Afro-American experience" — and July's Double Honey Pack, featuring remixes / reworks by such greats as Louie Vega (Masters At Work) and Maurice Fulton. Channeling the golden lineage of NYC club music into their genre-spanning tracks and sets, don't miss musclecars moving the crowd at the new Double Whammy! on 21st September, with MF residents Frank Booker and Sam Harmony. "musclecars is the DJ / Producer duo of native New Yorkers - Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield. In 2018 they launched ‘Coloring Lessons’, a monthly party that aimed to bring New York City's dance music scene back to what it was during the golden era of NY nightlife. Through the party and their slots on The Lot Radio - musclecars quickly established themselves as rising stars in the kind of dance music we’re about here at Music Fist. Headlining festivals across Europe this summer and now residents at NYC’s storied club - NOWADAYS - they bring a deep understanding of NYC’s past and present to Tāmaki Makaurau THIS SPRING.

Releasing music under their own “Coloring Lessons Records” since 2020 - musclecars have established themselves as being at the forefront of the next wave of house from the big apple. The release in May of “Sugar Honey Iced Tea” - their critically acclaimed debut LP on bbe records showed the breadth of their musical taste and talent & has been played by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff & Volcov amongst many others and sold out of it’s first press almost instantly. They’ve since followed that up with a remix album which showcases incredibly killer versions from two NYC certified legends - Maurice Fulton & Louis Vega. The latter’s version of Tonight - already a Music First classic.
