Spotlight: Lee Scott & Black Josh (Blah Records) New Zealand Tour

Spotlight: Lee Scott & Black Josh (Blah Records) New Zealand Tour

Chris Cudby / Monday 19th August, 2024 2:28PM

Lee Scott and Black Josh will be proudly repping UK underground hip-hop imprint Blah Records down under at the end of this month, moving crowds in Tāmaki Makaurau, Pōneke and Ōtautahi at part of their first ever joint Australasian tour. Rapper / producer Lee Scott aka Leezus started up Blah Records with DJ Molotov in 2006 as a vehicle for their rap posse Children of the Damned, later expanding the project's umbrella as Cult of the Damned, proceeding to unleash a dizzying array of solo and collaborative works — notably garnering praise for his dark satiric flow from The Needle Drop's Anthony Fantano, for his 2015 album Butter Fly (produced by Dirty Dike). Scott's new album To Tame a Dead Horse is currently only available in physical form, you'll be able to nab a copy at his upcoming local dates.

Linking up with Blah Records in the mid-'10s, Manchester rapper Black Josh has too been an incredibly productive figure, with no less than nine albums and mixtapes to his name so far, including 2018's breakout Young Sweg Lawd — featuring his biggest hit to date 'Own Ting' — latest solo long player Swegasus (2022), and March's Blah Stylin Trilogy. Also a member of Cult of the Damned and such crews as Levelz and The Mouse Outfit, Black Josh was invited to support US rap star Danny Brown's Quaranta tour earlier this year. Special guests are Pang Productions reps Joe Snow and Must Volkoff from Australia, plus a small legion of local faves in each city. Both Melbourne shows are already sold out — hip-hop heads best pay attention to these high quality gigs, as rapper Young Gho$t (playing two dates of the tour) points out...

"If you're a fan of rap music then make sure you make it out to this one. It's not often that we get to see underground hip hop artists of this calibre in Aotearoa so make sure that you show support so we can keep having them!"
— Young Gho$t

Press release:

Blah Records heavy hitters Lee Scott and Black Josh are without a doubt two of the most formidable lyricists in the underground UK hip hop scene. With an undeniable cult following that spans across the globe, this pair are setting out to give the south pacific a taste of the dark and witty madness they are known so well for bringing.

Lee Scott AKA Leezus reps a uniquely intelligent style of “Gonzo Lyricism” sharp, hard hitting, fuckin hilarious. Co founder of the legendary BLAH records, Lee has achieved absolute don status with a long and impressive history of contributions to the UK rap world with over fifty releases across his discography.

Hailed as a "Manchester cult hero" and a "lyrical maverick” Black Josh has been part of some HUGE rap groups: Cult of the Damned, Levelz and The Mouse Outfit to name a few. With a solid mix of high energy and low pace head nod tunes, Josh is easily one of the best at what he does. Joining them will be Pang Productions staples Joe Snow and Must Volkoff as well as local support in every city.
